The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards have come and gone, and “Hacks” scored the biggest surprise of the night, winning for comedy series over “The Bear,” which broke its own record for the most Primetime Emmys won by a comedy series in a single year with 11 overall awards.

In the drama category, FX’s “Shōgun,” the historical Japanese-set epic based on James Clavell’s novel, had a big night, taking home a whopping 18 Emmys, including drama series. It had already broken the record for the most Emmys won by a series in a single year at last week’s Creative Arts Emmys, so Sunday’s awards added to the tally.

Also having a big night was the limited series “Baby Reindeer,” Netflix’s dark British drama about a bartender and aspiring comedian named Donny Dunn who is stalked by an eccentric woman he meets at the pub where he works. The show took the top award in the category, and creator Richard Gadd won for writing and actor in a limited series. Also earning an acting award was Jessica Gunning, who plays Martha, the woman who stalks his character. “Baby Reindeer” is based on Gadd’s autobiographical one-man show of the same name.
