It sports the medium frame but the similarly sized New Vaquero is 4 oz heavier at 40 oz. It also has sights that the NV doesn't. Why is it so much lighter? Years ago I recall the standard blued Blackhawk in this config but with the larger frame was about 36 oz as well and believe someone indicated it was because the grip frame was aluminum. Is that the case here? However, assuming this to be the case, how does the gun feel in hand compared to the other slightly heavier models? Top heavy? Noticeable? |

I wear one daily and it is neither burdensome on the hip nor lacking in its abilities. You won’t be sorry to get one. Mine likes the Miha 454-640 bullet over 10 grains of power pistol. |

The med frame .45 FT with 4 5/8' bbl is about 42oz empty . The original size .45 BH with aluminum frame that is still being made is right at 37oz , if you switch out the steel ejector rod housing for an older aluminum one and trade the black hard rubber grips for walnut, you will be right at 36oz, maybe 35oz depending on the grips . |

That’s about right. I weighed a blue 4 5/8” FT 45 at a hair over 41 oz. I sent my 4 5/8” Taffin PPP FT Bisley 45 to RW for an aluminum Potatoe Judge Jr. I’m expecting 36 to 37oz. It might go an oz less if I asked Ronnie to scallop the loading gate/recoil shield (wink-wink-nod-nod!). Those steel gf NM xr3 45 flattops are still very handy and packable at 41-42oz, though. I prefer a few oz’ lighter, but for the relatively low price, they are easily amenable. |

I was thinking your scale must be off, as I once weighed an identical NIB version at 41.2oz on my little kitchen scale. I did a google search, and this topic has been hashed out several times, on several forums, including this one. Your scale seems correct, and mine is off. I no longer own one of those guns to recheck that weight, but I’m definitely getting a new scale! |

That, sir, is an original Ruger front sight that's had a healthy application of a good file, a Swiss file, then some cold blue. I've done three of my Blackhawks in all. Here's one of my .41's- |
